The Work Shop Machinery

Lintz and Eckhardt A & Cornely

The Lintz and Eckhardt was the first and most simple of all the Cornely embroidery machines and was invented in 1865. It embroidered chain stitch and moss stitch only. The moss stitch is an unsecured chain stitch and is made by turning the looper forward and the hook of the needle backward. These two stitches work on all types of fabric from tulle or thinnest lace to the heaviest cloth and a variety of different threads.

These machines are a single thread chain stitch embroidery machine that use a freehand crank below the machine to direct the motion of the stitch using the universal feed ring. The thread is directly pulled off the cone, under the machine, and there is no bobbin used in this machine. The distance between stitches can be varied in order to produce traditional embroidery, chenille, or monogramming.

Both these machines can be used for marking names, monograms, and chenille appliqué.
